The drive units are fitted with a patented automatic clutch that allows the wheels to freewheel along the track. Only when power is applied does the drive engage between the motor and the wheels. The drive units offered are standardized for our range of models and operate from a Direct Current (DC) supply. If you wish to use the units with Alternating Current (AC) supply then it will be necessary to order the AC module #840 which we offer as an optional accessory. This features a rectifier and also allows switchable change of direction. The change of direction function is operated either by stopping the locomotive (AC-0) or by applying a voltage surge pulse (AC-1). Please select the correct module to suit.
The drive unit marked "HF" contains a central pick-up for driving on a three-rail track system.
If you require a drive unit with different wheel diameters or to your own specific specification, please contact us and we will advise you whether it is possible to accommodate your requirements.
Technical specification:
Power supply: DC, voltage 0-16V. We do not recommend higher voltages than 22V.
Speed: Depends on the voltage and load of the drive unit. At 12V, the unit speed is about 0.7m/s (if there is no load)
Current: 0.1A with no load, 0.25A at an average load and 0.4A with maximum load.
In the case of a twin-motor locomotive, the current values are doubled.
